This region is packed during peak foliage season so it was great to find a place just minutes off the “Kanc” that offered serenity. The cabins are exactly as advertised: wilderness cabins. No phone service, no wi-fi. The lights are propane and the kitchen is stocked with all the equipment you need to fix simple meals. Everything was clean, simple and tidy. The beds are comfortable and we slept great.
Chris, the owner, is accommodating and caring. Though the electric power is limited to two hours a day, he’s happy to fire up the generator if you need more. We didn’t – the propane was enough to keep us fed, warm and light our cabin.
My daughter and I were on our annual mother/daughter road trip through New Hampshire when we spied the sign for the cabins. We had our two dogs with us. The owner was so accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed. I have never seen so many stars in the sky EVER. I would love to go back in warmer weather and just sit outside until the wee hours.
Room Tip: We stayed in “Spruce” cabin – it was so cozy and we just loved it. The porch was wonderful…
Four days of nature, relaxation and tech-free. Great location in the White Mountain Forest. Could not think of a better location as a home base for fantastic day hiking. Cabin was exactly what we were looking for. Simple and back to nature ….a little slice of heaven. Never before have we seen such beautiful night skies. No phone service and power generated twice a day…but it only added to the charm. Chris was a terrific host and a real pleasure to talk with. If you desire five star luxury, then this type of lodging will not be for you. But if you want to relax, get away and ” check out of life” for a bit….I highly recommend the Wilderness Cabins experience!
Quiet off the grid cabins. Very nice owner. Clean. Remote. Primitive. Great place for hiking and exploring the white mountains. Right off the Kancamangus highway. Near Lincoln and Conway. Fire pits. Deep woods experience. Close to a lot of area attractions.
Tip: Off the grid, bring a lantern, no cell service, partial electricity. Unplug and relax.
Lovely time. Thanks to Chris and his daughter Stefanie who were so friendly and ever so helpful. We loved that the cabins where nestled along the Kang. Town was a short drive away along scenic roads. Felt very relaxing. Helpful with putting electricity on for us to have a warm shower on first night. Clean tidy rooms. Easy to find. Perfectly peaceful stay. Thank you for your hospitality.
We stayed 2 nights at the Wilderness cabins and loved its location, the cabin itself (clean, quiet, simple but still comfortable), the atmosphere… We were on the Kanc. to hike in the area and the cabins felts like the ideal match for the theme of this vacation. Chris was also very nice and helpful with information.
Chris was very helpful in making reservations for a two day getaway off the grid. Told us about nice swimming spot just down the road which was perfect as it was a little warm while we were staying. Yes you only have electricity for an hour in the morning and at night but it’s part of the charm and you manage your day around it. The beds are a little more firm than I am used to but they are comfy & clean. Basic kitchen amenities supplied which I didn’t even need as I had packed supplies as if I were going camping for the weekend. Thank you for the time away to be able to truly relax & refresh. Having a self employed husband it was a huge help to have cell phone service at least a 20 minute drive away 🙂 If you’re looking for the best of the best, not for you, but if you’re looking for a relaxing base camp while you enjoy the company of those around you and the beautiful outdoors you will be happy here!

This was our second year at the Wilderness Cabins in White Mountain National Forest, and it was better than ever! We love the tranquility of these cabins in the woods. The off-grid silence, and rest from phones, TV and all, is by far the most peaceful way to spend a vacation. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with abundant flowers and hummingbirds. The cabins have everything necessary for comfort–gas stoves and refrigerators, flush toilets, running water during the portion of the day when the generator is on. We went on daily long hikes in the National Forest and had picnics beside gorgeous rushing rivers filled with huge granite rocks. What an idyllic time. Many thanks to Chris, the owner, who is available for every need. We’d like to return.
This place is amazing. Great place to get together with friends or family and leave everything behind. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to actually get away from it all and enjoy the company of others with out the interference of cellphones

We recently spent a wonderful week at Wilderness Cabins. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin, grounds and general location. We love hiking/walking and were delighted to find several great walks within walking distance. We didn’t have to park our car! And there were innumerable other hikes within a short drive. It was fabulous. Chris, the owner of this family-run business was very friendly and accommodating with all requests. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a nature-immersion experience.

Stumbled across this place on Labor Day weekend. When we pulled up we were greeted by a very friendly young woman. She told us to take a look at the cabins to make sure we were happy with them. Let me tell you, we were more then happy with the grounds and the cabin look. Everything was very clean. If you want the camping experience with a comfortable bed and a rustic atmosphere then this is the place for you. Everyone was very pleasant and accomadating. This is nowhere near being anything like the Bates Motel! Will be back for sure.
